SORU is a state-of-the-art software solution for engineer analysis, design and simulation of large-scale Photovoltaic Systems over complex site topographies.

SImRTR is the application developer partner of Ingreen in a custom project for ACCIONA Energía, the largest utility in the world exclusively operating in renewable technologies.

The development of SORU started at the end of 2020, initially thought as a plugin to assist in the civil engineer design of large photovoltaic power generation facilities.

The strict geometrical requirements of the different kinds of structures with photovoltaic panels require near flat or low slope terrains. If the available site has complex topography conditions, typically it is needed huge and costly earthworks. The challenge is how to optimize this process. How to adapt the structures layout to the complex topography with the minimum earthworks as possible, while matching all the specific engineer requirements.

The main functionality of the first version of SORU was:

  • Automatic review of predefined design layout over a specific topography.

  • Visual analysis of the areas that will require earthworks.

  • Cost estimates of the needed earthworks.

In the second half of 2021, it started the preliminary studies of a new version of SORU as an independent desktop application with more ambitious functionality:

  • Full detail design of the optimized earthworks. Including balanced or harmonious design conditions between surrounding structures.

  • Automatic design of the structures layout.

  • Energy yield calculations according to industry standards.

For this new version it was developed several prototypes in order to maximize the performance:

  • Optimal parallel processing of the engineer calculations (+10X faster of previous version).

  • Optimal use of modern GPUs, with large projects running with fluid frame rates (60fr/sec) in typical user machines.

The development of SORU will continue in 2023 with more exciting functionality to come.
